Maker
Making and creating is, for me a physical manifestation of my self expression and a life giving process. “Sometimes the materials just have to be handled and manipulated. " says Kerri “ I just can’t not touch”. Whether it be for a project on my own, a collaboration, assignment or commission, the process is driven by enquiry, commitment, and exploration.
Kerri’s work, be a costume, an installation or hair, bears the mark of the unusual. Her work showcases an understanding of the materials and processes she is working with. Kerri has the requisite experience and knowledge needed to build. Working with fibres, textiles or any found object, Kerri has demonstrated time after time she has the smarts with drills, nails, threads, scissors or buttons or wire but not limited to any. “never underestimate a woman with a sewing machine” a quote Kerri came across which sang to her. “Kerri’s machine was gifted by her grandfather at 12 years old. It has since bound and decorated vinyl, leather, aluminium, plastic, leather, linen and silk and more. Some of Kerri's previous pieces have involved articulated car joints with conjunction with fabric, and other many mixed mediums.
Kerri understands it, she breathes it. ‘ MyDad Alan, worked with his hands, making, fixing building and I was at the ring side watching. My mum, June was also a maker - she made music, she made a space in her home and her heart to make that available to anyone else” says Kerri “ It was Chaotic, but those 2 have provided great life models for me to build on and maybe even for my children, passing on the passion and energy and a can do attitude ”
